ACTIVITIES OF RED CROSS SOCIETY HYDERABAD DISTRICT BRANCH DURING COVID-19
I. Food Packets Distribution
The Indian Red Cross Society Hyderabad District Branch distributed food packets for migrants, orphans and the people effected by Covid-19 in the 16 Mandal’s under GHMC limits from 30-03-2020 to 10-05-2020 for 41 days. We distributed totally 66,940 food packets utilizing 70 Quintals 70 Kgs Rice, 150 Kgs Toor Dal and essential items consisting of oil, tamarind, salt, vegetables etc. The cooking is done in the Red Cross Premises Masab Tank. About 15 Volunteers helped in cooking food, another 30 volunteers assisted in cutting vegetables and packing food. The food items were Sambar Rice, Vegetable Rice, Aloo Rice, Fried Rice, Curd Rice egg rice and Tomato Rice. Everyday around 2000 food packets were distributed for the needy through 40 Volunteers who coordinated with 16 Mandal MRO’s, Police Personnel, GHMC Staff. Food packets were also distributed in Raj Bhavan for seven days. Red Cross along with V3 Channel, Abhisti Welfare society, Amma Foundation took part in the food distribution programme. The whole food distribution programme was funded by the philanthropists.
II. Essential Items Kits
On behalf of the Indian Red Cross Hyderabad District Branch totally 1400 dry ration kits were distributed to various people who were in dire need of essential items. Every kit consisted of Rice – 10 kgs, Dal – 2kg, Oil – 1kg, Salt – 1kg, Sugar – 1kg, Chili Powder – 500gm, turmeric – 500gm, tamarind – 500gm, 2 bath soaps, 2 washing soaps, 1 cleaning soaps. 600 kits wheat flour Out of 1400 kits was distributed in place of Rice. Along with ration kits, sanitizers, masks, vegetables were also distributed. Out of the 1400 kits, 800 kits were distributed with the support of the Office of the Hon’ble Governor Telangana State. Upon directions of the Governor Telangana State, 595 kits were distributed to 4th Class Employees working in Gandhi Hospital. This programme was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Governor of Telangana at Raj Bhavan.
On the request of IRCS Andhra Pradesh Chairman, kits were distributed to migrants at Chengicherla, Boduppal.
With the assistance of Winners Foundation 105 kits along with soft drinks, vegetable kits and sanitary napkins, masks, white cane were distributed at Jawaharnagar and Balaji Nagar for the visually impaired and Differently Abled persons.
The beneficiaries of these kits distribution were migrants from the states of West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh.

III. Vegetable Kits
Totally 700 Vegetable Kits were distributed to the needy people affected by the lockdown during Covid-19. The following areas were covered in this distribution program.
Yousufguda – Nandinagar - Krishna Nagar - Old City- Venkatagiri – Dilsukhnagar – Kukatpally – Balanagar – Begumpet – Jawaharnagar – BalajiNagar - Asif Nagar - 1st Lancer - Chintal Basti - ESI Hospital, Musheerabad - Secunderabad.
IV. Water Bottles
The Indian Red Cross Hyderabad District Branch distributed 42000 water bottles across the twin cities for migrants, Police Personnel, GHMC Staff, MRO Offices, destitute and other needy people. A major contribution was done by Abhisti Welfare Society
V. Soft Drinks
Totally 24000 soft drinks were distributed in the GHMC limits. IRCS Telangana State Branch played a major part in the supply of soft drinks.
VI. Biscuits
6000 Parle-G biscuit packets were distributed with the cooperation of Abhisti Welfare Society for the needy.
VII. Soaps
6280 toilet soaps were distributed to migrants at temporary shelters managed by MRO along with Police Personnel. Soaps were also distributed at Railway Stations at the time of the Departure of migrants under the supervision of Respected Hyderabad District Collector and Revenue Department.
VIII. Masks
IRCS Hyderabad District Branch distributed 54000 reusable masks throughout Hyderabad District. The masks were manufactured in bulk at Hyderabad Red Cross Production Centre. For this approximately 4500 meters cloth is utilized.
In the following places the masks were distributed;
Bandlaguda – Amberpet – Saidabad – Ameerpet – Shaikpet – Nampally - Secunderabad RDO Office - Hyderabad RDO Office – Tirumalagiri - Function Hall at Golkonda - Yousufguda Police Lane - Kachiguda Railway Station - Bollarum Railway Station - Charminar – Aliabad – Dilsukhnagar – Balanagar –Golkonda – Gudimalkapur - Kothapet Vegetable and Fruit Market.
IX. PPE Kits
10 PPE Kits were distributed for doctors and medical staff belonging to Red Cross and its related doctors.
X. Gloves
Totally 6000 Pairs of hand gloves were distributed for Red Cross volunteers, cook, packing persons and distributing food/ration kits and visitors to Red Cross Office.
XI. Sanitizers
1100 Sanitizer bottles were distributed to the various people visiting Red Cross Office, Red Cross Volunteers and at migrant shelters.
XII. Footwear
In collaboration with Abhisti Welfare Society footwear were distributed at ORR Exit near Medchal and Shamshabad to migrants who were going to their destination. Fruits and bread packets were also distributed.
XIII. Napkins
1500 Sanitary Packs were distributed to Slum Dwellers and Orphan Homes and night shelters in collaboaration with Abhisti Welfare Society.
XIV. Health Camps
Health Camps were conducted at Red Cross Office on two occasions and Orphan Home at Chudi Bazaar.
XV. Blood Donation Camps
In all 8 Blood Donation camps were conducted by Hyderabad Red Cross District Branch and 400 units of Blood was collected. The places of Blood Donation Camps were Blood Bank Vidyanagar, Mangalhat, Musheerabad, Kadthal, Masab Tank Red Cross Office, Nagole, Dilsukhnagar, Boduppal.
XVI. Additional Activities Conducted
· Soaps, Masks, food packets, biscuit packets and cool drinks were distributed at Kachiguda and Bollarum Railway Stations at the time of the Departure of migrants under the supervision of Respected Hyderabad District Collector, Joint Collector and Revenue Department. The programme was headed by the Chairman IRCS Hyderabad Branch. 40 volunteers rendered service in this programme.
· A programme was conducted at Bollarum and Kachiguda Railway Station for migrant people leaving for their home and distributed Masks , Food and Soaps.
· An awareness programme was conducted at Golconda Function Hall headed by MRO Golconda Ayyappa, Chandra Sekhar Reddy, CI Golconda. Food and Masks were distributed during the programme.
· An awerness programme was conducted at Falaknuma vegetable market about the necessity of wearing masks. This programme was attended by the Chairman, Bandlaguda MRO and Red Cross Volunteers.
· With the support of Police Department at Police Line Yousufguda an awareness program about Covid-19 was conducted for Migrants. Also food and Masks were distributed.
· Ex- Labour Minister Shri Babu Mohan distributed Masks at Secunderabad Area.
· The Hon’ble Collector inaugurated the Masks and soaps distribution programme at Bandlaguda Mandal on the occasion of the collector’s ration kits distribution programme.
· Banjara Hills Corporator Vijaya Reddy took part in the program conducted to create awareness about Covid-19 and distributed soaps and masks.
· A programme was Conducted at Anandnagar Colony where Masks, soaps and food were distributed.
· On the occasion of completion of the IRCS 100years Flag Hoisting ceremony was held at Masab Tank Red Cross Office. In this programme ration kits were distributed to press people, working women, Red Cross Staff and GHMC workers.
· Masks were donated at L.B.Nagar in collaboration with Sudheer Reddy Garu MLA L.B.Nagar.
· At Boduppal Shri. MallaReddy (Minister for Labour) distributed Masks to migrants.
· Circle Inspector Saroornagar Sri. Srinivas Reddy distributed Masks to the general public.
· Boduppal Mayor Sri. Buchi Reddy along with Deputy Mayor Smt. Kotha Ravi Laxmi Goud took part in the masks distribution program at Boduppal.
· Shri. Kaleru Venkatesh Amberpet MLA Participated in masks and kits distribution programme.
